The Ragged Edge

I can't remember the actual date I joined this band, it was a call from Nigel the bass player whom I'd played with in Mindz Eye. They were a right motley crew! An Irish chap who didn't speak much and when he did it was unintelligible, but he was a great player. A one legged singer, Liam (who was also a drummer - he was quite good actually once he'd put his prosthetic leg on!), A young chap called Jason playing drums in this band and then Nigel on bass and of course me.

I can tell you these guys were a fabulous bunch and the songs (mainly by the guitarist and one legged singer) were awesome with obvious potential. The big problem was when we gigged - talk about a volume competition! I couldn't hear a bastard thing - not on stage at the time (except a painful dirge) or anything else for three days after! After just a few gigs of this I made a pathetic excuse I'd been offered a paid position in another band and got the hell outta dodge!

The Ragged Edge rehearsed in Central Rehearsal Studios (aka White Light) at Dale End which was run by Edwin Starr's backing band. The site doesn't exist anymore - McDonalds and Bacons shoes does instead! My parting goodwill gesture to The Ragged Edge was to run through the songs with their new keyboard player, a young lady who hadn't got a fucking clue, I told her the opening chord on one song was 'Cminor7' and she replied 'what's that?'. Enough said!!! Never did see their name in lights.

I didn't have a paid position to go to. That was a lie, sorry guys - you were just too damn loud! Before I joined my next touring band (Jump The Gun) I did a six month stint with a country music band called Skeeter.
