GH TRAPPETT'S

Slade Road, Erdington, Birmingham

Yes, we had a shop! A tobacconists and newsagents established by my great grandfather and thereafter run by my grandfather til just before he died in 1987. It was then run by his sister until just before the millennium when like all good convenience stores it was took over by Asians. This picture was found in a book about busses (c.1950s) and thanks goes to Albert Stanley from the Glebe Farm Gym for his hard work locating this picture.

Don't ask me who the geezer window shopping is, probably a shoplifter of the time casing the joint, the one walking is the lookout!

THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND

The back garden of my old house in Kitts Green. My Dad built the two ponds. Unfortunately he made them with raw cement and they cracked every winter. At one time we had ducks and a chicken. Foxes got 'em all in the end. The building in the background is Sir Wilfred Martineau School - I went there, nice and convenient.

I USED TO BE ARNOLD!

Here's an ancient photo of me in full fitness (apart from the acne) and posing at Severn Street BAI Gym central Birmingham. That gym was a Health & Safety Executive's nightmare but the atmosphere was second to none.
